Hey guys I recently acquired a little Asiatic House Gecko that was looking pretty sick, so I thought I'd look after him for a bit... but he hasn't eaten except for two mealworms the day I found him.
At the moment he has a couple of crickets running around in his enclosure about the size of his head, but he doesn't seem the slightest bit interested. Are they too big?
Any and all help would be great, thanks.

Phil,
You will find Geckos will try and eat anything that moves. Try smaller prey. The ideal size for feeding is by the gap between their eyes. Never feed mealworms, stick to Crickets.
Keep an eye on him and spray him daily with water. Also, keep him out of direct sunlight as their preferences are for dark areas. Also, the direct sunlight would preobably kill him. Try to keep him at reasonabe temps at around 24-26oC.

Thanks heaps. Is he OK to eat little spiders and that?
I'm going to buy smaller crickets today to feed my scorpion with, so hopefully they'll be better for him. These ones are probably too big, going on the eye-space thing. Thank you.

Just stick with Crickets for now.
Hold off on any handling until he starts to gain good weight and his attitude and behavioural responses improve.

OK thanks, and a final thing - lighting and heating? Does he need UVB and a heatmat?
At the moment I just found him in my bathroom and put him in a fishtank with some furniture, but I don't want him to die if I haven't got the right kind of lighting/heating for him, so I'll let him go if need be.

No UV required, most people dont heat there AHGs. I take it your in QLD or NT, so you dont need it as they are naturally found in those areas. Just do your best to keep him at the temps described above.

Yep Shawn's right on the money here. No need to heat at all. I have one living in my bedroom (he seems to like the ceiling best) - he seems to like clearing up all the stray crickets too.

UPDATE on the little fella. He seems a little happier, and has crapped a bit (always a sign of life, i guess). Tonight he ate a fairly big cricket, but held it halfway in/out of his mouth for AGES before gradually and slowly swallowing it. Was he just making sure it was dead? Is this normal? Cheers.
