Heat mat question.

Is a heat mat ok to use directly in an enclosure?

Its one of the green type that looks like it would be waterproof (not that im going to test it) but i don't know what brand or wattage but its controlled by a microclimate ministat 100.

I got it from upmarket aquariums so if anyone knows what brand they have can they let me know please.

Its for a stimsons python if that makes any difference.

Tile

I use the same thing and find there aren't too many issues. Depending on the enclosure setup you could just put the heat mat on the outside of the enclosure.

I think the green herp shop ones also have their own insulation. Repeating what I frequently say, run it at full strength in open air and check the heat mat with your hand

seeing as i can't edit my post, this has to be a triple post :S

but after 30 minutes its 49-50 degrees.

This would be ok if it malfunctioned wouldn't it?

i know tis hot for a snake but it CAN go other places to avoid the heat, it will only cover a small area. correct?

My heatmat has always offered perfect heat underneath fake grass. I also place the hide half over the heatmat to give my MD the additional option of a cool and warm side.
