Hi, i have a black headed male and female breeding pair. Recently i have noticed around her spurs are bleeding and swollen. I had a closer look today and noticed the scales are lifting and are weeping and bleeding underneath and the area is really pink. They have been mating hard at it but i am really woried theyre real important to me. I am going to the vet tomorrow first thing but need some advice.

Hi JD,
Separate them if you haven't already, place the affected snake in a viv with clean newspaper or paper towel.
Consider treating her with a diluted betadine solution if you think there is a open wound.
Get her to the Vet tomorrow for a once over.

Thanks heaps for your advice i took her to the vet today. Funnily enough she has an infection from shagging to much. The vet said that she has been definately getting a work out which is why she is reddish and a little swollen and the infection could of been a result of a small tear or cut under her scale and after going to the toilet has gotten infected. So a good dose of antibiotics and diluted betadine twice a day and she will be fine. Big relief i was freaking thinking it was scale rot or something.

I'm not to worried wether she gets eggs or not would like to though. So i could say i have done it and to see what the babies will be like but doesn't bother me either way just glad she will be ok and its not serious.
