BHP, were they housed together?

Low temps in Townsville have been fairly cool, certainly too low for snakes to keep feeding if kept in a relatively cool room.

PS dead hatchy looks perfectly fine - just a stiff snake! Scales are still glossy. We have opened mouth and all looks fine. No lumps or bumps.

have you tried a live fuzzy?
any problem feeders i've had have always been fixed with a live feed.
then back to frozen.
I would be questioning the breeder to how many feeds they have before you got them.
BHP's are one not to reject food. They are psycho eaters

Both hatchys were housed together. Breeder said ok while small as long as fed seperately in feed boxes and not together. Breeder said to change to separate cages when a little bigger. Both hatchys sisters from same clutch. The one that died was the smaller of the two.

....measured temp in hot zone with heat mat is 36.8 degrees celcius. | ...how did you get the reading of 36.8*c? is this the air temperature or surface temperature...?
...also, did the breeder make you aware that BHPs are reptile feeders...?

36.8 was taken with the medical thermometre directly against the surface of the heat mat. Sorry I do not have anything else to measure temps with.

Ok, you said that the hatchlings were 4 months old when you got them. How long were they?
You also said the breeder told you that they were eating 1 pinkie every 2 weeks, That is under feeding big time. Once a hatchling starts feeding by its self, It should be fed a pinkie 2 to 3 times a week. just to give them a good start. Once they get bigger, then it a fuzzie once a week.
You have only had the pythons for 6 weeks, if they were under done when you brought them, I dont belive its your fault.
IN MY OPINION, I would be having a very long talk to the breeder...

Different people have told us different things about feeding bhp's. Our breeder feeds his mice, then rats and chickens and ducklings as they get larger. We did offer ours some house geekos how ever they did not seem interested! Infact they do not seem interested with anything at all! Any food source we have offered they just ignore. We have tapped noses with the feed item however they just turn around and ignore it.
