Unhappy Help!! Python Not Eating

Hi Everyone, have a 1 yr old Brissy Carpet who shed on 21/03 and hasn't eaten since, is turning his nose up to pinky rats and mice and furry rats and mice, I have had him since Nov 07 and the first time he shed he ate as soon as he had shed, last feed was 29/02 then on 09/03 offered rat and he didn't take it but then on the 14/03 starting getting shedding symptoms ( cloudy eyes etc. ) Unsure if this is normal as this is my first snake and I am getting a bit worried about him/her (unsure of sex). Other than not eating is acting normal, climbing on its log and wanting to come out of the enclosure to visit us, still as curious and active as normal.

Any suggestions would be great!

Jac

Yes, I handled her. Actually was really worried so took her to the vet & they couldn't think of anything much either, they put her on vitamin injections just to keep that side up, so she was handled for that a lot, & she was a very good patient!!! I just thawed out less rats & offered her one first, so if she didn't take it then it wasn't wasted. She all of a sudden one day grabbed it & I was soooo happy I almost threw a party!!!!

HaHa! I think ill be throwing a party when this little bugger eats too!, the only prob is I have to travel 2 hours to Melbourne to a reptile vet, so I will keep an eye on it I guess if it goes past 5-6 weeks I think ill give the vet a call just to make sure.
i have read some other threads and other suggestions have been to leave the rat in overnight, any chance of this going off and the snake getting sick from this?

Should b ok, I've done this as well on occassions & sometimes it's gone & others it's still there. If it's still there in the morning I dispose of it, don't re-freeze it or anything, get rid of it.

And also with the hot end, maybe put the temps up to about 33 basking spot/hot end. It will be easier for him to digest food and he will have a higher metabolism.

good to hear he's eating again!!!

Meanwhile I'm still waiting for my darwin to eat

Since I got him, feb 23 this year he has not fed once with me, keeps refusing everything I offer him i.e. rats chicken necks etc..
Sometimes he'll snap at them but won't coil or take them and if i leave the food alone with him in the enclosure, he just ignores it completely!

Mind you it was already round 2 weeks since his last meal on that date i got him, so im guessing its been a bit over a month now, but like everyone keeps assuring me, he's probably still trying to settle in and I know some snakes can go upto 12 months without food.. It's just that nagging nurturing instinct inside me, i wanna make him eat!! lol

if the temps are high enough there is no reason why he should not eat try washing a rat in warm water to get most of the smell off it and make sure it is warmer than ambient temp.
the smack the rat against the ground or firm surface by its tail to get a bit of brain juice and blood out of its nose ( bit gross) or cut into the rats head.
and offer the rat to the snake jiggle it a bit by the tail, keep an eye on the snake and make sure it is focused on the rat not your hand.
when it strikes at the rat try and hang on to the tail and play a bit of a tug of war with him till he throws a coil around it .
Or alternatively drop a live rat in with him make sure it is not big enough to harm him.
