Unhappy Help!.. Sick eggbound Gecko :(

Hi

I have a 17 month old female Levis that has laid only 1 egg (either sat night or sun morn)and I can see the other egg inside still,. she has lost alot of tail weight, and has not been eating as much food as usual.
This is her first clutch.

Does anyone know of anything I can do to help/save her??

Thanks
Kelly

Hey Kelly

Can you submit a pic........with particular interest in her feet please thats if you can get that close. Most of the time eggbinding is caused by other factors.......which sometimes have nothing to do with the eggbinding.

Are u sure that the gek is egg bound. Before i got my female pilbarensis she apparently did the same thing. Was her first clutch and layed one, a week later after she was sold to a seller and in someone else's hands she dropped the other although the egg wasn't fertile.

Sorry thats not much help

Hey guys,

Thanks for your replies,

Troy I will take some pics tonight.

Method, No I dont think she is eggbound... YET , I had to get everyones attention and also that is how she might end up!.
Just thought I would check if there is anything I can do for her, or just wait and hope with my fingers crossed that she is going to be ok.

Hopefully she will still lay it, . if her tail wasnt so thin I wouldnt be as concerned!

I havnt really had great experiences with Reptiles and vets,.
So I thoughtI would see if there is anything I can do for her without going down that track, unless need be.
What will the vet do?

If you are that concerned about the animal it should be seen by a vet, a diagnosis can not be made on a forum, at best any reply would be an educated guess.

Hey Gecko,

Give her a really hot basking spot, I've found that eggbound females will bask on very hot sand in order to get their eggies out. To do this put them in a glass tank on sand. Use a 15 watt heat cord and bunch it up one end. Gradiate the sand from very shallow up to maybe 4cm depth so she can pick the best spot heatwise. There will be quite a variation for her to choose from depending on the depth of sand

This would appear to be quite important as the two females I have had do this were willing to brave the daylight and sit out in the open basking on the hot sand until the eggs were out.

Took a few days, but two soggy yellow floppy things were eventually expelled, about a day apart in both cases.

Hmmm.. what about for U. Milli, who don't like basking spots?

Saz- that female STILL hasn't laid.

Cor blimey, she is holding on isn't she. I've only had one female milii do that, it was her first clutch. I found that upping the humidity helped, but not as easy to get them to lay as knobbies.

Haven't tried it myself, but I have heard that a boost of calcium can help them on their way. I'd suggest doing a little googling on that though as it is just off the top of my head and as mentioned, I haven't tried it myself.

I've taken out all her fat little cagemates, she's got a moist peat&vermiculite takeaway container uncovered and another one covered, as well as a terracotta 'moist hide', plus another dry hide. Her tail is rapidly shrinking, but she is always active. Every feed has been dusted with vit & calcium.

I don't know what else to do!!

I still give my milli a basking spot glider when egg laying, they use it a fair bit, but it is colder down here. If they don't like it they can stay at the cool end.

Thank you all for your replies.

Sarah, I have moved her to a slightly warmer enclosure, although I only have heat mats and plastic tubs, not heat cord and glass tank, will this be ok?
I have my warm end set at 28 usually, I have now moved her to a enclosure wich is 32 up the warm end...?
What temps should I be aiming for?
