Herp Mites...What to do?

Ok came home from a big nite last night and looked in my spotted python cage and saw what i thought was a mite crawling on one snake.

This morning I:

Stripped the cage totally took out all the decor and boiled them.

i have now soaked all three (adult) snakes in warm soapy water and coated each snake with veg oil.

the snakes are now in isolation in click clack boxes.

i have nuked the cages with "Top of decent” after i vacuumed it thoroughly.

Tomorrow i will get from the vet some more "ToD" and some ivermectin to dilute and soaked the snakes again.

Have i missed anything? any criticisms or suggestions?

also is it safe to spray "ToD" directly onto the herps?

Thanks

Visit Facebook Profile
Use Top of Descent mate. That should clear it up. Not sure about the snake though. Just soak the snake in water (tepid) for about 20 minutes. The mites will float up to the surface.

mite

Lol - I think U haveit sorted. There is also "Permoxin".
I keep a solution mix in a spray and use when I clean my enclosures and fittings
You can add a little to the warm water and that will remove mite from snakes. repeat in 2weeks

Yes but not to much and don't directly spray on to the reptiles head.

When i have had mites all i do is remove the water bowl and run it under hot water then spray the cage and furnishings as well.If you clean the enclosure out you may spread the mites around.

I would have thought the best thing to do would be to get a copy of this months Reptiles Australia magazine tomorrow and read it immediately - great article on mites written by a vet

Anyone know where i can get some equimec from? ive just been refused it by the vet they advised that it needs to be purchased under prescription and will not be prescribed for reptiles because its for mammals

Can anyone suggest another point of sale?
