they aren't introduced (well a few types probably are), there are thousands of beetle species that have a larval form that eat dead or living timber... good old witchety grubs for example.

I had a borer in a Manna gum branch and didn't worry to much as it was only one, occasionally trying to poke it out with a toothpick. Then one morning I got up and there was dozens of them crawling around the enclosure. They also started boring more holes in the branch. I ended up getting a new branch.
