Hi all,
At what age can you sex Boyds Dragons?
What are the differing characteristics between the sexes?
I have been told that the male has a bigger head, but if this is the only way to sex them, how do you sex different age Boyds, as they are different sizes and therefore different size heads...
Is probing the only way, or is the vent different? Who does this sexing?
Any info would be appreciated as I can find NO info on these guys at all for this topic!!!
Cheers guys...

Never kept this species but from pics there seems to be quite obvious sexual dimorphisms in these dragons, mature males have a larger dorsal ridge (head/neck area) than the females. I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong...

As far as underneath goes, I've never really looked, I assume that the males can be popped by a professional. With my adult pair, the male is sleek, whereas the female has a bit of a pod belly (same with my angle head pair). Both the male and female are colourful, but the male has a larger head and bigger crest. Not much help really. I have very limited experience with them, you want to speak to Toad as he has a fair few and has been breeding them for a while now.

Spoke to Toad today.....it's pretty difficult if not impossible to tell unless you have them "popped" as you say Saz, which I am not ready to do on my 2...
Even as adults, some females have bigger heads than males and they are both sexes can be as colourful as each other so....as far as finding the sex of my guys this year and getting another from Toad to make sure I have one of each sex, I guess I have to wait a couple of years.
Oh well, their a joy to have anyway, so i'll just enjoy them even if they grow up to be a same sex couple....not that there's anything wrong with that...
Cheers
Scott.

I know someone who bought 4 adult females only to find one was in fact a male.
There's not much diference from what I can tell, more of a "feeling" as to which is which.

Anyway, I reckon that sexing these would be similar to sexing other young dragons. Craig & Gab Latta showed me how to sex hatchling dragons and their method is very accurate once you know what you are looking for. (I still only offer a "probable" sex for my babies). It is basically looking for hemipenal bulges. Unfortunately, it is virtually impossible to describe how it works it in words but it does work.
You merely need to find someone in your area that has experience in doing it.
Gavin Bedford has also published research where he has sexed Frillies under a microscope when they hatched. This was in research regarding temperature dependent sex determination.
