International Move?

Hi, I am new here so I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this question in.

I live in the USA, and plan on moving to Australia soon. The Problem is, I can't find any customs information about how and/or what I need to do to bring my Ball Python.
Do I need a license or something of that sort? Or am I over-complicating things?
What precautions need to be taken to make my snake have a comfortable, safe journey?

the snake can't come with you, it's illegal to import reptiles into Australia.

This website has made that clear, but left me puzzling about a permit

If you had a zoo you might be able to get a permit, the general public simply cant get them.

Even if you could get a permit to import it you still wouldnt be allowed to keep it.

They might be referring to zoos or wildlife parks.

nah we can only keep native herps, with the exception of axolotyls and in queensland we can also keep AHG's, cane toads and green tree pythons.

Sorry,

It just cannot be done as others have said. Only native reptiles can be kept on recreational permits in Australia (with the exception of some dubious locale' GTP's). No ball pythons are kept here legally other than in wildlife parks, zoos or scientific institutions.

I hope you find a good home for it.

Cheers

I imagine there is an array of captive snakes available as pets, though it makes me sad to leave mine behind

Any Websites listing these ^

depending on which state you move to, you can keep many varietys of snakes.
you just need to get a licence first.

take a look here for how you get a licence and a list of snakes that can be kept on a class 1 N.S.W permit:

http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/...eepers+licence

there is a link to the list of species at the bottom.

but like i said it depends on WHICH STATE YOU LIVE IN.......

also not sure about citizenship and licencing??????

Just to point out to.
Even if it's an Aussie snake you can't bring it into the country from overseas

Thanks for the licensing info! I'll see where I get with the Citizenship crap .

It is also nice to know that snake aren't sold in pet shops as they are here in the U.S. , Meaning Stupid people can't get a hold of them, and do something like overfeed them to their death (as happened to a guy asking me for advice )

How difficult is it to obtain a snake from a snake keeper (as thats how I understand it works )?

A Children's Python would be my first-most choice (having owned one in the past), and a Class 1 License permits it.

They can be sold in pet stores. There are regulations on which species can be sold, for example in QLD I think pet stores are only allowed to sell Stimsoni, Childreni and Maculosa. There are also 'reptile stores' which specialise in live reptiles and reptile supplies.

But a breeder is definately the better way to go.
