Ill start with the fact that Buddy normally spends his evenings roaming about. But the past two evenings he has been coiled up on his heat mat like a statue. I hope that this is the normal process of shedding his skin. But i thought I should get some suggestions, which
I hope will prove me right .

sounds normal for coming upto a shed.... although mine have been hideing much more than usual lately, i think its due to the night time temps dropping.

You can also tell that your snake is getting ready to shed if his colouration looks darker or duller than usual, or if his skin feels drier than normal. My mac's eyes tend not to turn milky.
As someone else has already said, your snake might also be hiding and more lethargic because it's getting colder.
