one word, no, unless you can prove you had the turtle before the new rules came in, so it would have to be about 5 years old, a mate had one that was pre licence changes, and here are rules that still have to be kept, my mate moved and he got into trouble because the turtle wasn't allowed to be moved to another town,

but saying that, these rules might have been changed in the last couple years also,

yes you could keep 1 or 2 a few years ago, but you weren't allowed to move them from the area, so u had to live close to where they were caught, and if they bred, u had to let them go,

its funny how all the rules are different everywhere... i live in SA and you can have 1 python or lizard or anything on the basic list without a permit but you need proof of purchase.. and then you must get licence to sell... and it costs money for permit.. and in NT you have to hav a permit for everything but it is free... i dont know why they cant just make it one permit system that doesnt cost herpers money so that the hobby can expand a little more

When people are willing to pay, people will always be there making money of it.

If you have free permits lots of people would just start taking them out of the wild and selling them, the herp hobby may expand but a lot more irresponsible people could have reptiles and then the reptiles could have a bad life, and we wouldn't want that now would we.

to my knowledge these days no you cant keep them without a licence, thats one of the reasons why they cant be sold to you unless you do have one. You could call the environmental protection agency they'll know what you could do. If it was me though i wuoldn't give any of my personal details until i knew i wasn't gonna be in doodoo and risk loosing my animals

thats right firedragon, at this time it's illegal, but about 5 or 6 years ago they changed the rules in QLD, before that u could have a turtle or dragon, i know, we had some, i still have a turtle that was pre licence and can keep it as long as it stays in my home, so if i move, it stays with my family,

thanks rev, i do try to help where i can,

i also wish we had one licence system australia wide, but thats as likely as me being allowed to import exotics, NEVER............
