I tried preparing my own driftwood but want to make sure its safe before i use it because i have no idea. I stripped it of nearly all bark and soaked it in a strong solution of a biodegradable cleaning chemical for a few hours. I then soaked it for an hour in fresh water. changed that water into a fresh lot overnight. Its now had about 3 or four water changes and been scrubbed with a brush. Do you think its safe to use.
Thanks
Shannon.

One piece came from a freshly fallen tree. next to no holes. another was quite dry from near a river and had a few holes in it. but i doubt any mites can withstand 3 hours of 10:1 parts industrial cleaner. correct me if im wrong. I dont think anything in it could still be alive but i just dont want to poison my EWD im getting lol.

I just assume that if its biodegradable a few days of soaking in several water changes will make it safe.

Its fine i do the same thing and use it in my fish tanks and reptiles tanks.
I soak it for 2weeks then dry it then soak it ect, takes a while but cheaper that way.

Provided the stuff you cleaned it with isnt to nasty it will be fine. Soaking it for a bit longer wouldnt hurt just for piece of mind.

Next time just soak it in hot/boiling water. No little nasty will survive that. just fill the bath up with pure hot water and let it soak for a few hours. Leave it out in the sun to dry and repeat the process. Then if you are still worried give it a dosing with TOD. Using this method will kill off any possible nasties living inside it.
