I have a 4 month old Childrens Python and when i first got her a snake-owner friend told me always to take her out of her enclosure and into a separate box to feed. I have been doing this but the last 3 weeks she's been very reluctant. Is there a real problem with feeding her in her everyday enclosure?
thanks!
Kris

When did you get the snake?
How long have you had it for?
How long did you leave it alone to settle in?
Did the breeder give you record sheets of when the snake has eaten and shed?
What was the breeder feeding the snake?
What is your method of feeding the snake?
There isn't necessarly a problem with feeding them in their enclosures, There are some people on here that do it (I don't) but from what I've read it can sometimes encourage the snake to think that whatever goes into the enclosure can be considered as pray.
My Stimson Python is the most placid snake, you can pick her up any time even when she's shedding, but soon as I put her into her feeding enclousre, anything is considered to be food, She'll automatically go into strike position. This is because she's associated that this container is a feeding container. I believe that if you feed snakes in their living container it could make them believe that anything going into the enclosure could be food, causing a bite. etc.
So just to keep it safe, I would have the snake in it's own enclosure/click clack and the have a seperate click clack/large container to feed the snake in. If the snake doesn't want to be fed in the feeding container, try putting some things in it from it's current click clack? like a hide or something? Maybe put the snake into the feeding click clack close the lid and leave him in there for a while to get use to it, and know that it's safe and then attempt to feed him.
Someone else might have some more input onto this.

the only problem is that she might start expecting food when her enclosures opened and get a bit nippy.
or if you use a loose substrate that she might ingest some of it.
heaps of people feed their snakes in their enclosures,....and a childrens python isnt really big enought to do any damage if she does start geting bitey.

I got her in the second week of January and the breeder provided full feeding records, she was eating very well, consistently every 7-10 days. The breeder was feeding her pinkies, of which im still feeding her.
I fed her inside the enclosure the past two weeks and save for the day before shes due to feed again she has no problems with being picked up. Feeding day was today and last night she immediately struck out at me. Perhaps its best to get her used to going back into the separate container.

She will do laps around the enclosure, plus look outside the glass of the enclosure and climb up it, until I finally get her to put her into her feeding container.

I feed my Stimson inside his enclosure, as did the person who had him before me.
I've never ever had a problem with him biting or even striking at anyone, inside or out of the enclosure. I've literally had my hand in there after he's been fed (smelling of mice) and he hasn't even shown any interest.
So I think it really depends on the snake |

I leave her food near her feed box for a minute or two, it seems to make her hungry and she strikes immediately
