Lazy attack

Any tips on why my 6 month old stimson doeasn't attack its food when i feed it. All it seems to do is find its scent then very lazily approach it then open its mouth and then begin eating it. There is no lunge not even a strangulation just a "straight to eating" snake.

um cos it's right there and dead, no need to attack, my stimmy does the same, however my carpet grabs it and strangles the crap out of it before taking 20 minutes to find the head and eat it. i guess some snakes have a stronger feeding response than others. Probably if you jiggled it about you might get a feistier response. Yay atleast it's eating!

Probably because it has never had to subdue it's prey!

I wouldn't worry, it's eating and that's the main thing.

My BHPs sometimes do the same thing.

It's because we are breeding out the instinct to constrict and kill their prey, just another great example of why we should continue to feed dead rodents to our snakes. Probably only a few generations from seeing vegetarian snakes LOL.
Sorry really bad day.

One of my childrens started doing the exact same thing after winter cooling one year, and this python used to be fed soley on live mice by his previous owner. As long as its eating its no big deal.

I dont think we can ever "breed out" instinct. In my opinion every captive bred hatchling emerges from it's egg with the same instincts as their wild counterparts.

Anthony88, it's good that your snake feeds this way. You've less chance of being bitten during feeding. Some of my snakes are lazy eaters. It's a blessing. Surely there's more things appealing about a snake than watching it strike it's prey hard?

My Atherton Jungle takes it very gently it used to hit stuff like a mach truck but now when its hungry it comes to the door and watches me (nagging) until it gets fed. I guess maybe its gotten used to the way it gets feed and knows it doesn't need to attack to eat

Lol Grace used to do the same thing and would bite its back and then decide that was the wrong area and try again. But I just fed her now and she hardly even looked at it (I thought she would refuse) and then just started eating, not even holding on to stop it moving away. Half way down...

My Blonde would do the same thing until one day he was sitting in my hand and I put him near the pinkie and he lunged at it and scared the crap out of me.

Now he pretty much does it all the time, it's an interesting feeling having them on your hand and then feeling them lunge, I gave up on the idea as I can see him one day missing and coming back to think my hand is food.
