Anthony88, dont feed live prey to your snake. You have a snake that is feeding. Be very happy with that.

it's illegal cos it is stressful and dangerous to both the mouse and the snake =)

I have a lovely mellow female bhp that eats just like that, i can put the head of the rat in her mouth by hand. I occasionly think that if she was born wild she'd have starved. But then we don't run if we only need to walk....I'm sure that she could switch on if she had to, she just a big sooky baby!!!
I love her for it,( just quietly)!!

Its great that it eats . A non feeder is a nightmare. IMO assist feeding (what a headache)and the avaialbility of dead food teaches them to be lazy feeders. But your dog hunting down a live chicken in your back yard is not on and would have the RSPCA up in arms. The further removed from the the wild that they are the more domestic they become

My maccie is a lazy feeder too. I've given her live mice (babies, 1 cos she is so small, 2 so they can't hurt her) and she's a retard with them!! She wraps around herself more then them! Even when you tap her tail (or her body or her head or the mouse!!) she doesn't wrap any tighter!

But at least, to an extent, she wraps.

When I feed her frozen nice she doesn't even wrap. She slithers up to where I'm holding it (with tweezer things), smells it and then ever so gently puts it in her mouth. Won't pull but won't let go. It's funny to watch! It's almost as if she is trying to be polite to the mouse and asks it first if it doesn't mind her eating it!! Haha!

Maybe try to get the mouse/rat a bit warmer and jiggle it around a bit and see if it wraps it up then.

Don't feed him until he is really really hungry and then dangle it infront of his face. if that doesn't work, then maybe you have a bit of a poofy snake

Be happy with it doing it the lazy way..... When they are striking...and get bigger... And miss.... Well they can either grab you...the tongs... or hit their head against something...causing injury to the snake or yourself...

DONT WORRY BE HAPPY.......

Have a 2yr old coastal fem that insists on being fed in exactly the same spot . She hangs staring at the spot on the floor when hungry till l put a rat there . Then after a couple of licks and a prod with the nose she will stare the dead rat into submision for up to 15 mins then slowly eats . She speeds up on the next till she is full . Its a big improvment on only eating chicks .

All but one of my snake do this from time to time, when i see them just coming upto it to eat it like that somtimes i just move it away a bit and they lunge to grab it b4 it gets away
They love it (probly not literally ) All my snakes pretty much know when it's feeding time (well most of the time) as i put them in there tubs and they just sit and wait, first sight of food and bam! gone!
