i don't know about NSW but i think up here in QLD you have to be over 18 to do one... but someone may correct me? hopefully someone from NSW replies to you soon! i hate government websites i can never follow them and can never get the search engins to do their jobs. Good luck!

I looked into it in Central Western NSW, where I am and the only way I can get into it is by doing a WIRES course. That involves joining WIRES and doing the introductory course then waiting for a reptile handling course to come around.

I do have an application form somewhere here from NPWS but the requirements are much more strict and detailed than WIRES. You will need so much experience, references from other experienced handlers, Insurance, etc. Atleast with WIRES you just do the courses and away you go!

yeah, thats what ive done. go on the wires website and look around for the training courses. both courses are 2 day courses, and i think they both cost around $110. after you do the wires snake handling course, its perfectly legal to catch and relocate venomous snakes.

Keep in mind if you are in suburban Sydney you will likely have to travel to a regional area to do the snake course, since they don't bother to do them in Sydney often. I'm still waiting for any of the specialty courses to be run in Sydney after being a member for 2 years.

Alternatively try Sydney Wildlife Rescue. I know I should have.
