Question Lizard has worms

Hey all, just checked on my blueys and found a what looked like a dark red brown jelly with WORMS in it

They are about 10mm in length and still alive. The blueys have been spending quite a bit of time outside lately, and one of them is appearing quite chubby (thought it might be gravid), so i think that is the one that has them.

Can anyone recommend any good worm treatments or should i be heading for the vet???

Any advice greatly appreciated
Thanx
Ben

Vet your best bet mate, there are a few worming treatments, but the Vet will give you a run down on those and give him a dose too.

You should worm them all too.

Thanx pugsly.

I thought that might be the case, my beardie has been in the enclosure too, whilst i finish his one off, so i think they'll all be getting the treatment.

G'day mate,

I wouldn't bother taking it to the vet, I would just pop in and get some Worm Out Gel. Mix 10 parts water, 1 part gel, and admininster either via a syringe/cropping needle combination or into a small amount of food (so it eats the whole lot). Repeat once a week for three weeks and it should clear the problem up.

Cheers

Any decent pet shop should sell Worm Rid. You can also purchase Panacur from your vet.

I bought mine off the net, i think it might have been from this place, can't really remember now but the name sounds familiar: http://www.pets-megastore.com.au/pro...&products_id=4

I use 1ml per 1kg body weight, injected into a thawed rodent prior to feeding.

Any good avian pet shop Mick, as it's a bird wormer, I've used it for a couple of years now with no probs, even on the little-uns (Geckos not kids), with guessed amounts.

Yes i agree any decent pet shop should have worm rid, we also use it every 3 mths even though they dont have them mostly cause we also use fresh donked as well as frozen rodents better to be safe. Bummer it's the weekend or i'd express post one of our bottles to you

Hey guys, there's a big difference between Worm Rid and Worm Out Gel. I highly recommend Worm Out Gel, it comes in a pump bottle and is very easy to use, and is actually effective unlike Worm Rid.

thanks heaps all...

firedragon you are too kind, big thanx too you

My vet called back, he has something that will do the job. He assured me he spoke to a herp vet and got the dosages etc, so i'll go tomorrow and grab it.

I was actually quite lucky, i found it this morning and Erin_Jane was over. It looked disgusting, all moving and stuff, and knowing what she's like i had to hope she didn't see it. Though thinking about it it could have been a bit amusing to have seen her reaction

I think as a precaution i'll do them every couple of months, like Firedragon, just to be safe..

Learn something new everyday..I always thought that worming solutions had to be used on the animal it was manufactured for (they didn't tell me anything different in my animal care course). If Worm Rid is no good and Worm Out Gel is more effective i think i'll change over, can you use it just for lizards or snakes also?

My vet has recommended using Panacur...

Anyone used this with reptiles????

He's not a herp vet, so as much as i value his opinion i think people on this site probably have more experience in this so just want to check it's ok for reptiles
