Recently picked up a cheap B1ME - a standard B1 would have worked for me but I got the B1ME at roughly half the price...
...Quick question, can the night time function be switched off?

Do you mean you want it to drop to a cooler temp at night???
------ If so, set the temp to what you want at night time.....
Or do you want a continuous/same temperature Night and Day......
------ If this is what you want , set the temp on the night dial the same as the day temperature dial...
Hope this is easy to understand...lol |

Hope this is easy to understand...lol | That is incorrect- the magic eye control adjusts the amount of night drop (in degrees) from the daytime temp.
ie if the day temp is set at 30 deg and you want a night temp of 25 deg you need to set the dial at 5 (ie a drop of 5 degrees). If you want continuous temp day/night then the night dial is set a ZERO.
