Mites or some sort of gland near anus of DP

Hello all,

I noticed under light today that my diamond python had a little black dot like the size of a pin head on each side of her anus (sort of half under a scale) which I first thought was a mite. Then I noticed one on the other side of her anus in exactly the opposite side.

Are these some sort of gland or may they be mites. Or what are they? They are in the same spot on each side of her anus.

I bathed her and they were still there. I can't take a photo as my camera is overseas. But any macro pics of your diamonds anus or what it might be, would be appreciated.

Cloacal spurs. A spur typically consists of a spur base which is capped with a spur claw; species with spurs have one spur at each side of the anal scale. In some smaller species, the spur is reduced in size and set into a fold of skin at the lateral margin of the anal scale, essentially unnoticeable. In some larger species of pythons, spurs are large, strong and very visible upon inspection. The spur is used by the males during courtship to stimulate and position the females.

So do both male and females have spurs?

As she was sold to me as a female.

They both have spurs. The males are usually noticably larger.
