mites....still

I recently found mites on my snakes and have treated them all twice with TOD and they all look better except my female diamond. She has been done twice and is still soaking in her water and her skin looks very dry. Could this be her enclosure or is the spray just not working... her temps stay between 26-29 occasionally at 30 but usually just under. Any help would be appreciated

thanks

Look under the raised scales, if the mites are still present there is a good chance you will find some under there. I would use TOD at least 3 times to be sure anyway.

Check her water bowl for any drowned mites then. Using a microscope or magnifying glass helps if they are only small.

Some snakes regularly soak even when mite free. Also after being infected with mites most snakes will shed sooner then usual and if she appears dry she may be preparing for a shed.

haha, point taken,.!

maybe shes due to shed?
or her dry skin is making her itchy?

u could try using moisturiser,...Loki loves being lightly Lucas pawpaw ointmented after his bath,..its all natural,...
....but get someone else to second that opinion, i'm not sure many people moisturise their snakes,...

All my DP's love the water.
None have mites, they just love to have a soak.
The TOD would have done the job so don't worry.

Mites don't just go on the reptile they'll infest the whole enclosure so a bath wont do the job.

mites are easy to get rid of but you have to remember to take care of any eggs that may be in your enclosure too. After any treatment you may have wasted your timeStrip it out totally, take out the water bottle, replace substrate with fresh paper so you can see the mite carcasses and spray a good mist into the enclosure with the snake still in there. Make it foggy with the TOD. You won't hurt the snake. Leave it in there a 20 mins until the fog totally clears. If you had mites on your snake you would see them as dots on the paper. Remove the paper and put it straight in the bin outside
While it is probably unecessary, i would then put the snake in a bucket of water with a little detergent in the water. The snake will keep its head out of the water. I would soak it in there for 30 mins at least. The time i had mites i swam my snake in the pool for a while. It seemed to enjoy it but i was right in there with it to keep it safe
GIve your enclosure a good wipe with pine-o-clean or similar and allow it to dry.
Replace the paper and put your snake back and his water bowl back. Disinfect and hose your hides and branches and leave them in the sun till they are cooked then put them back in.
In 5 days do it again and in 5 days do it again.

overkill you reckon? mites can make a snake's life a misery. Now when i see a snake in the water bowl i know it is for their enjoyment not some relief from biting mites sucking their vigour.

How did i get mites? I either got them with the snake when i bought it or when i lent it out to breed with another herper. This is a valuable lesson. If i ever get another snake i will quarantine it well away from my collection and treat it as though it had mites even if it didn't and i am going to be very shy of breeding loans in the future
