Murray Darling Pythons; Recommended cage size?

Hey there I've recently put an enclosure of layby with getting a Stimsons in mind but have recently discovered Murray Darlings and wonder if this tank will comfortably hold this python. It is 4ft in length, 2ft in width and about 3ft in height. Keep in mind I would get a hatchling and preferably keep it in this tank when it is fully grown. Be honest if this is a good sized tank. If not, I'll go with something else with a heavy heart

i have asked an experianced keeper and breeder of snakes (as i haven't got md's and they do) and they have said it is a good size for a fully grown md and would work fine (given you throw in some branches for climing and all that other stuff!) hope this helps!

Yeah I was planning on having some climbing equipment. I wish the tank was taller but it's the best they had. Thank you so much, this is a great relief.

That should be fine, if possible it would be better if the 4' could be the height IMO but it will be fine the way it is if it isnt practical to rotate the enclosure.
They really like to have hides up high too and IMO they will almost always go for a higher hide over a lower one.

It would not be good to rotate. Hmm. What would be a good design. A branch as high up as I can with a little hide box attached? Perhaps even a mini-hammock. Haha. I heard snakes use those. I'll do the absolute best that I can to ensure my snake lives happily. I will naturally let him go for 'walks' outside and climb some trees. Are snakes in general very fast when let loose? i wouldn't want to risk losing mine but if they are quite content to have a poke around then that's great.

Hey Horsy, I highly agree with cris, MD's love height. If it is possible to renforce the tank so it can be rotated, ya should do it But if impossible, im sure it will live.

Sounds like a good enclosure, wheres the pics??

Also, great to see someone looking up info BEFORE they get a snake, well done.

Our MD's love those plastic terra cotta-coloured hanging wall planters. We've got two of them up high in that sized enclosure. Always in them! Got them both up the warm end of the enclosure. We have two other hides down the cool end on the floor.(only cardboard boxes). Hidden by artificial plant foliage. Cheers Cheryl
