minimlist is the way to go, that set up if just wright.
just place your container half on a heat pad/cord run
it through a thermostat

Perhaps a snake???
Yes, you should clean it before adding your new addition with something such as f10 or some of that reptile spray stuff you get at the pet shop.

Mate for the sake of 10 bucks you can save yourself alot of heartache with your pets health by just buying the proper stuff.Up to you though!!
