He seems to be attached to his body about half way down, What can I do to help? Leave him alone or help in some way????
And when he does get away do I bath the area or just leave him???

Usually you won't need to do anything, he will free himself and you won't have to worry.
No need to clean him up, I would be surprised he he has drawn blood.
They learn over time, well some do ! LOL!

One of mine did that last month, had a tooth or 2 stuck to its side about halfway down the body.
It managed to swallow the whole mouse whilst still attached to itself, then I decided to help it.
I just sort of tried to hold its body still / gently push one direction with the feeding tongs while the head was trying to go the other way.
It pretty much did it by itself though, I don't think I helped much.
No blood, no damaged looking scales, no dramas.

Your snake should be fine, my BHP does it when he gets really excited about his food and mistakens himself as the rat. Your snake should let go if he dosn't squeeze either side of his jaw (firm but not to hurt him) and if that dosn't work try gold water or fairly warm which ever works best. But better to wait for him to let go himself. Unless there's damage were he bit himself there's no need to do anything, if there is than bath it with bedadine.

I know their sight is not the best but is there a reason why they do it, it seems very strange.

don't think so, I think it's more of a case of being over excited and if they smell rat on themselves. I'm sure they realise what the've done when they feel the pain lol.

yeah thanks again everyone...
He did eventually let go, it just looked bad cause he had a fair bit of skin pulling. Once he eventually swallowed the rat he seemed to be able to let go.
Ive never seen him to take so long to swallow his food. lol
There was no blood though so its all good, just freaked me out a bit....
Thanks again for the help.....
