Newbie questions
Ok, im a bit of a newbie and havent recieved my first snake/s yet but i have a few questions b4 this happens ....
1st > Um firstly import/export question, Um Im in NSW and it indicates a Species code number *person is from Melb and was unaware of this info* also i was told different states class carpets as different species eg: um gettin a mcdowli (spelt wrong) but in Vic they are classed as varigata ? please explain !!!
2nd . Heating ..... now i have a heat rock and a heat cord . it advises on box not to use heatrock as main heat supply but my heat cord (6m 80W) is heating the container (30cm L x 20cm W x 20cm H) to much.... i have it under a ceramic tile and it's heating it 40+ degrees within 10 mins ? now because the heatrock has a inbuilt thermostat is it ok to use this ??? (um currently im awaiting a dial thermostat to arrive for the cord/light)
and lastly , i have converted an old kitchen cupboard into an enclosure for under $100 bux which im quite happy about, and i have a questoin, do most ppl get a sparky to set up the wiring or have they attempted it themselves... I attempted it myself and im quite happy it works, had it tested by a sparky friend and he was shocked that it was correct lol, though the setup is minus the thermostat so it's just a light switch with a plug,
Thanx heaps
LaceMonitor aka Daggy
(Att Mods: um i accidentally posted this on another persons thread, i apoligiesd and was wondering if u could delete it please)

1st Q can't answer sorry
2nd Q get a thermometer and apply the correct heating needs for your snake/reptile (be careful with heat rocks though, have seen many tragic cases of them going wrong and cooking your herps) that said with a thermostat should be ok.
3rd/lastly Q i set up all my lighting/enclosure and fittings myself. i am no electrician but with time and patience and lots of instruction/manual reading i got it right. if you are not confident with electrics i would recommend a 'sparky'. if you are willing to do a bit of research and give it a try yourself then do it! if you succeed then you gained a new skill and will probably become the households electrician otherwise you may die of electrocution |

Love the kitchen cupboard idea . Used to have an old shop counter years ago mostly glass with holes into wooden ends for hides . Big diamond loved it , like a penthouse suite . Most now are practical but boring . |

UM now i dont want to be portrayed as an antagonist here, But really, UM If u want a snake Im sure there is a care and husbandry course in your area!! Yes i agree this is a great forum for answering all the smallest of problems, but UM seriously, have a look back through the threads and Im sure you'll find somebody posted the same question last week, or UM maybe the week before.
As for Home Electrics 101, it is illegal in all states to modify or create your own, so UM unless you plug it in its not to be done by u!!! If u have a mate who is a sparky, then use him, its amazing what a carton will buy!!
Sorry for the UM's but i have a pet hate about typing what ya think!
Variegata normally refers to plants, sorry dude! cant help with that question.
Please people, go and do your research.
Troy
PS This damn soapbox is gonna get me shot one day!!!

Just fill out your import permits and record books with the relevant NSW species info/codes. The others states classification/codes etc is irrelevant.

Fair dinkum! i Really dont have a problem with questions like these, LAST WEEK. But, I spent the 100 bucks for me and my wife(individually) and went and found out the answers to many of my questions on a course, that yes, i could've asked here, but, when ya look back through the archives, or even still, do a search, you'll all see they are asked and answered week by week. I love this forum, and upon reading, i have learned a whole deal extra, with also some beautiful pics of specimens along the way. Honestly guys lets use such forums as a means to show off our babies, help with ONGOING health and keeping problems and let( even me) newbies just push the search button and find our info. I love it when a new post is up but find it a major let down when it is a common question like this. People the price of a course is AT MINIMUM a third of the price of ANY breed of snake u want, and really if u cant afford it, or a thermostat, u really need to reconsider your choice of pet. They arent that expensive in the whole scheme of things, and you'd be doing yourself as well as your new baby a world of justice by investing the extra few bucks.
Dont hate me anyone............

WHITEYLUVSRUM, Ive noticed you dont feel the need for a course, but, at the same time, you havent given any advice for the newbie. Is it because u dont actually know, or maybe cause u cant be bothered. Thus the reason for a couse. Share your knowledge or shut up Easy

Firstly the course should actually be on posting threads within a site *for ur case* and secondly , u have given the impression that cause i am simply asking for personal opinions and advice that cause i didnt ask correctly u have a right to say something ,, please do tell me how i should have approached the initial questions?
