I've given them a try, the black night lights that is. They are pretty good, look impressive. Not essential though I don't feel.

I put a blue party globe in the ceiling of our reptile room. It's just enough to see them without messing up the day/night cycle.

Pythline - I use the purple dark globes...

Used to have a red one but the light is too strong at night - makes your house look like a "massage" parlour...the purple lights are much more subtle around the house and still give a good view of the animals...

i use LED rope that you can get from bunnings. just do a zig-zag along the roof of the enclosure and hold it in place with little adhesive hooks.

LOL. I know exactly what you mean. I was using red globes for heat for geckos before I was setup properly and the red glow was visible from the bedroom, very irritating. And as you said, I'm sure the neighbours must have thought we were running a house of ill repute.

I know what you mean, we came home late one night, the blinds were still open and with the snake cage in my son's room... all we needed was a sign out the front quoting a price.

i use "moonlinht" purple night light now in my darwins cage.. it's nice and warm, it's bright enought to see what she is upto but not so bright you are kept awake...
no need for a heat mat anymore..

she loves it to, no more spending all night in her hide, she is out and about, sits on a branch under the light at night, goes for a wander around, then back to her faverout branch...
