Hi All,
I have a hatchling olive python (about 50cm long) and doesnt seem interested in eating.
He apparently was feeding fine on pinky mice when I bought him 2 weeks ago but wont eat pinkies now when I try and feed him. I'm thinking maybe hes just getting used to his new home (stressed). I'm kind of stuck of need some tips (ie scenting pinkie mice, feeding in smaller box, etc). Please help! I know hes fine and its normal and hes acting totally sweet, plenty active and all that but im just worried about him. Suggestions please. Cheers

What are you keeping him in and how is it setup? What are his min. and max. temps, day and night?

Gravel substrate, a couple of good hides, good basking spot on elevated cork, a large ceramic water bowl for drink and swim, a great branch which he climbs alot. He seems really stoked in there and I see him on all parts of the enclosure. His temp at one end is 30deg, and the other end is 27deg.
The enclosure seems ideal and I cant see any immediate reasons other than stress.

Also, his UV globe was faulty and im yet to replace. So, at the moment he has no UV light only 2x red heat lamps (proper reptile day/night safe globes) which turn on and off all day with thermostat.
Could a lack of UV be a factor? Im replacing the globe in the next day or so.

Dont think the UV would be the problem, majority of keepers dont use this. Is he getting a proper photoperiod?
Also, stop handling him until hes eating - his health and wellbeing is priority #1

The lack of UV would certainly not be a factor. They don't need UV and if i were you i wouldn't bother replacing the globe.
The likely cause is the switch from a small plastic tub (which i presume the breeder would have kept him in until you took possession of him) to the large enclosure he is now in. Try moving him back into a smaller enclosure/tub with suitable, small hides and a warm spot of around 31-32 degrees (which can be obtained by placing a heat pad set to 31-32 degrees underneath one third of the tub, leaving the other two thirds unheated). Leave him for a week then try feeding again.
P.S. Pinky mice are too small to be offering a hatchling Olive, try hoppers or weaners.

Ok will do. I was advised to feed him 2x pinky mice per week for a while. I'll try leaving him alone for a while.

Hi again
As per advice I havent handled my snake at all for nearly a week. He's been fine, normal behaviour, but this evening I put a pinky in the door with tongs to try and feed him again and he's still not interested. hes only 50cm long (hatchling/juvenile) and Im worried that he now hasnt eaten for 3 weeks.
Even if I dangle the pinky mouse right near him he fuly doesnt care, the mouse is warm and everything.
Should I try live food? Or scent with skinks or something?

try spiking the head of the pinky with a pin, makes the pinky smell more. also when my diamond didnt feed i accidently dropped it and i struck it. think the tongs might have scared him so maybe drop it in front of him a few times. also if that dosent work put the pinky in a ht spot in the cage and leave it over night. he might like to feed in the dark better with no one viewing him.
remember that snakes can go for some time with out eating.
possible try a fuzzy mouse

Good idea. I have already left it in the basking spot of the cage so perhaps he'll have a go of it while no one is watching. If it is stil there, ill try the pin prick idea. Cheers!

Try scenting it with a quail or chicken,olives are bird eaters and lovem.
Or feed it a quail and hold a hopper mouse just behind the quail so he bites onto it.
Just befor he swallows the quail,This will give him a taste for mice/rats.
