i just rang him and i'm going over there tonight to take some pics and identify the snake. i know for a fact that he doesnt have a reptile licence . and it would be wise for me not to dob him in. but i'll see what sort of condition this snake is in and decide then if i should report him or not and tryto convince him to get a licence although we hardly get along in the best of times. lol

Getting a license won't solve the problem.

The python, whatever it is has probably been captive for sometime and its origin is unknown, why not just let it be? trying to be some higher ethical power isnt goin to acheive anything positve. If you report him the snake will most likely be killed or possibly passed onto other keepers, it wont be goin back to the wild in any case.

I went over to my brothers house last night and finally convinced him to get his reptile licence. The snake seems healthy and happy although i found a tick on him which i removed and he has a couple of scars which look to be healing nicely so imo i think my brother is looking after the snake well. When i got to his place he told me the whole story which was this 14 year old found the snake in his outdoor bird cage and as it had eaten his birds it couldnt get out so my brother rescued it. The snake was very friendly and placid.

Yep your right, it aint no scrubby.
A few ticks and some battle scars are typical of WC snakes.
Personaly i think its a bit of a shame that it has lasted so long in the wild and now has to live the rest of its life out in a glass tank and not contribute to the wild population (breed).
Does your bro know that for $150 he could get a way nicer looking CB carpet.
Donk

definitley a common old coastal carpet.
He needs to release it back in the area he found it as it will be full of parasites etc and if not cleaned out proppally will most likely eventually die.

i was thinking that to TB, he recons he took it to his friend who works at a vet and she wormed it. he was worried that the vet would take it off him because it was wild. so i told him to get it seen by a vet.

Yeah, probably best off letting it go, since it is now known where it came from. You can get a coastal and a permit for $150 or so anyway to take the risk keeping it is stupid, but there is no way i would report him if i was in your position. There is a fair chance it would have been killed if he didnt save it anyway.
I plan on buying LEGAL wild caught animals in the future does that make me a villian too? or is it more that he isnt paying $50 to the government?

settle down im not reporting him sheesh! the only way i would was if the snake was in poor health or somehting. you can do what ever you want, but my brother is family and i want im to do the right thing by the snake as its not fair to everyone else or the snakes.
