search it there ill be hundrds of reasons not to use perspex and this has been done hundreds of times

Perspex deep scratches easily, if on the thinner side it bends when a weight is applied and can pop out of runners or allow a reptile to pass through the gap when bent and over time perspex can become 'foggy' and hard to see through (see scratches).
Glass breaks.
