Rack Help

I plan on building a rack pretty soon and need some help seeing as I'm hopeless with tools and my knowledge of timber and such is nudda.

Would like to make it out of 4x2 pine or any nice timber and sheets of similar for the tubs to sit on. A nice laquer and seal will also be done. Heating will be done by at least 2 heat cords run on 2 thermostats. Will most probably only be using the one for a while yet though.

I plan on making the shelves adjustable. There will be 6 shelves and a storage cabinet underneath.

Suggestions on timber, laquering and anything else would be great

Dunka

Getting a nice timbergrain sheet of hmr melamine board and a roll of iron on edgetape will save you sealing wood maybe even get a cabinetmaker to cut all the board to size and edgeband 2mm pvc edgetape on will work a treat (also looks better IMO), also buy the tubs before spacing the shelves will take any guess work out of the equation, using shelf pins may work a treat but make sure the holes you drill for the brass holes are exactly the same height because if they are not the shelf will be out of level.
Hope this all makes sense

Thanks bitey

I was going to laquer to give the whole thing a nice finish anyhow, but I'll look into melamine too. Hadn't thought of the shelf pins before, was just going to use 4x2 to hold the boards up but the pins may make it look tidier. I'll go find some various sized tubs within the next few days to get the measurements a little more precise.

I think that I may have a tonne of those brass pins and brass holes you can have floating around in my toolbox you just drill an 8mm (I think from memory) then hammer in the brass hole.
Just had a search and there are heaps of them.

That'd be great bitey!

The shelves should end up being 600mm deep.

Does anyone know which size routing bit I will need for a URS 80w 9meter heat cord?

Cheers

Excellent, my old boy will be giving me a hand so I should be right. I'll keep it in mind if we run into trouble, thanks Jonno

Finally got myself down to Bunnings today and I eyed off some bits of Mdf that looks perfect for my shelving. No need to cut to size or anything. Would this be ok to use? If so do I need to seal it? What would be best to use to stain and seal if so? I went into the paint section and the choice just made my head spin...or was just that?

Thanks
