i have used it and wont again..mainly because it is so messy...and sand can get stuck to the snake...particulary if the snake decided to go for a dip in the water bowl....i have a desert effect in my spotted cage by using brown marine carpet....i love it...easy to clean and looks great!!

G'day LJ77,

Red sand in a Spotted Python enclosure is OK, as long as you keep it nice and clean. However, you have to ask yourself why you would want to, considering A.maculosa do not occur on red sand? Keeping A.stimsoni on red sand would make more sense if you wanted a pseudo natural enclosure.

Cheers

Jonno

I found it would get stuck in the snakes heat pits too much. I don't like it.

I keep my little fella on red sand, and have for ages. I think it's great!! All you have to do is spot clean, and you don't smear crap everywhere like marine carpet sometimes does. Smells less too, and have never had any problemos with it at all.. I give him plenty of alternaives to the sand, like flat rocks and logs to climb on. Seems to be just fine.

Said in the heavily accented words of my European "at work dad".
"Forget it, about it"
Messy gets in heat pits and may be drawn up into the cloaca causing infection. JMO
