Release Advise Please

Hi guys and gals, as some of you know I live in the Frankston area. Last night my gal and I had to catch a tiger snake that decided to investigate our neighbours house. We went this option as a call out from three of the local catchers would have resulted in an inappropriate fee. We now need a location or help to release the little blighter. We judge him at about a year old and would have come through the back fence from the fauna park behind us. Any advise appreciated.

Ash.

Cool

Hi, the best thing you could probably do is call national parks and wildlife and find out what they reccomend. They may suggest just putting him/her back or they may send someone to relocate it somewhere different... Either way Good Luck

He must be released within 5k of location I suggest you speak to sssssnakeman on this forum as he is a licenced wildlife controller. He is also local to you guys.

The alternative is to release back into the park further in.

Definately chat to Bazza (sssnakeman) He's pretty close by to your area and would jump at the chance of helping you.

A badly worded piece of text ..... anyway, $160 on a late Friday night, not something everyone has in their back pocket at the moment. I realise professional catchers have expenses, just not something the average person can afford.

stick it back in the fauna park and fix the fence. easiest way is to place lengths of Hardyplank or similar along the bottom of the fence line. lets face it, if it had been a mammal, amphibian or bird in good health you would put that back over the fence.

The fence is wire, parks and gardens local by-laws state we cannot touch it, we can however build another fence 2 meters back on our own property, but I see where you're coming from. This is not the first and won't be the last to come through seeking shelter, how it got through is not my concern. Relocating it away from my less-than-caring other neighbours is, as they might not have come seeking help, but have dispatching the little guy by other means.

I'm very surprised there is a fee involved at all. In the NT, the council picks up the tab for snakes caught (they pay the snakeman). We pay (you also) council rates, they provide services. Sometimes I can see just how lucky I am living in the Northern Territory

No that's not how it works up here at all. The only kind of recompense that the snake catchers get is that they are allowed to keep whatever they catch and then sell it.

Edit: SOrry just saw ur in Alice. I assumed you were in the Darwin/Outer Darwin area, and that's how our system works.

Thanks all, ssssnakeman is on the job and going to release tigger this arvo.

spilota_variegata, I remember a time when the council would do a lot for their ratepayers, (remove bee/wasp nests etc..) not anymore.

Thanks again for all your help.

Ash.
