If you are a newbie (first time reptiles) I wouldn't even be thinking about getting a python...I would go for a bluey or a vitticeps!
If you are a newbie ( already had experience with the latter) then I would go one of the children variety!! JMO! As far as I am concerned pythons are the most fragile of anilmals to keep!
They are more susceptible to stress etc..
