seting up woodie colonies

hey, im going to need to start to breed some feeder insects with the price of them being so high so im going to set up a few colonies of woodies and am wondering what is the best way to go about it , like how many would i need to start each colony? should i buy all adults, all babies,or a mix of a few different sizes any any other info on them that any one can provide will be appreciated ,thanks.,

For each colony start off with 400 more depending on the tub size 55day old from the herpshop. I use plastic storage tubs, pain fluon or vaseline around the top to stop escapes(fluon is less messy) and then fill with egg carton, toilet rolls and other bits of cardborad they can hide in. Provide them with carrot for moisture and rat pellets or dog food for the base diet. I provide heating during winter to keep them breeding, 30c is good. Setup one tub with a variety of sizes so you can feed off that one while the others establish.

Rat pellets are fed to rats which are then fed to snakes, why would they be dangerous?

depends on how many herps you got to feed, how many colonys you plan to setup and the size of the tub. For a 60l i'm go with 400-500, for a 90-100l up to 1000

Mate I currently got a setup ready to go

Includes fluon lined tub, some egg cartons and about 1000 woodies of various ages. It has sustained a bluey, frog, couple of turtles, central netted, ackie, couple of geckoes and numerous WIRES rehab animals.

Provide them with plenty of heat in winter and food and they breed like crazy

Jonny
