shingle back help

hey every one, my shingle back's eye lids keep getting stuck together with what looks like the sleep stuff that you get when you wake up and he is unable to open his eyes. I have been dropping droplets of water onto them and seeing if he can open them him self after that but some times he can’t so I have to carefully pull his eye lids apart with a pair of tweezers.
Is this normal or is it abnormal and if so could any one suggest reasons for this happening and ways of preventing it?

Thanks in advance
Jason

im useing eco-litter woodpellets as substrate, i take him out of the enclosure to drink so theres no water bowl in there, and as for ventilations its a tank with 3 quaters of the top open.

sounds like a simple eye infection, plenty of different creams on the market, best run him down to the local vet.
