Howdy,
My 12 week old Darwin shed a day ago. Two thirds of the shed came off in one piece but he still had a third attached yesterday. I tried to peel it off, but it wasn't coming off easily so to prevent further trauma and hurting the poor little fella, I let go to do it himself.
I'm hoping it'll have come off by the time I get home tonight.
If not, should I get worried?
Cheers

Has he got access to water to soak in? When I first got my spotted he had trouble shedding, if he needed help I would dampen a facecloth, fold it in half and put it on his rock in the warm end. I had to actually put him in the facecloth myself but once he was in there he stayed there and the dampness helped lift the skin. I only had to do this a few times and it worked everytime. Don't have it soaking wet, just damp. And fold it up and put him in that way when he moves around he's got it rubbing over him from top and bottom.

If he hasn't shed properly tonight, put him in a container with warm water and soak him for about 10 minutes then try to peel it off slowly,it should come off really easily, if not leave him there for a bit longer. make sure the water isnt too hot. I have done this myself, just hold them if they dont like the water.
Good luck!

Benji, put the guy in a wet pillow case for about an hour. After that you will be able to help him remove the rest of the shed. Just massage it off rather than "peel" it off if you understand what I mean. It will come.

Yeah, his water dish is plenty big enough to soak in. If it hasn't come off when I get home, I'll get him to have a soak. Thanks folks

I leave them in a bucket of water for about 20 mins with some baby oil or sorbolene cream in it.
Works a treat and will come off easy.
To prevent it happening again mist the cage a few times a day prior to it shedding.

Will a wet pillow case or reptile bag allow him to breath?...just curious

I've had the same problem from time to time with my snakes. All i do is run a warm bath for the snake let it swim around for a while (30 mins) then just stroke it with the scales from head to tail and you will find that it will slowly come off.
Have fun!!

I certainly will. He's slowly becoming amendable to handling, but trying to remove a stubborn shed, especially from his tail (he's not real keen on me touching that bit) will be fun.

I wet the corner of my rep bags when transporting for my beardies.... just was unsure about fully wet thats all
Thanks though!
I also use a babies soft toothbrush on problem shedding areas...not against the grain so to speak.... would that help?
