Sick Bearded Dragon

Hi,

I have a 12 month male Bearded Dragon that became unwell yesterday. He's not eating and seems to be beathing very heavily. He gets a very black beard and his back has gone pale. He also seems to have seizures and looks like he is chocking. Does anyone know a vet in Sydney's north shore that deals with reptiles? We have a second dragon that is seperated in the same enclosure that seems fine. Thanks

Thanks for all the replies. He is with David Vellas at Crows Nest. He took blood and has him there for observation and so he can start treatment asap. Not looking too good at this stage. Thats for your concern.

George the Beardie seems to be on the mend. David Vellas the vet had him overnight and the blood test came back with a bad infection. He put him on antibiotics for a month by injection. He has started eating woodies again and is moving around a bit more. We have to keep him warm so the heat stays on all night at the moment. Fingers crossed he will keep improving.

I think it was a respitory infection. His white cells were very low and his breathing was very laboured. Amazing how quickly he is improving with the antibiotics. I'm glad the other guy didn't catch it. We are going to keep the seperated for a while now.

Deffa - do you know what the name of the antibiotic is? Is it injected into the muscle or is it Baytril given orally? Just curious as it helps us if anything happens to our beardies in the future.
