sick snake advice please.

Hi, I have snake that I took to the vet in about march that had RI. He was put on a course of fortum, once the course was finished I noticed little if any change, so he was given another course which helped a little but the RI is still there.
In the last week his head has now swelled up both on top and underneath and does not look pretty, he rubs his head and generally doesnt seem well and like it hurts. He still quite often sits with his head up from the RI.......So is the head thing somthing else? or caused by the advanced stage of RI?
He just shed last night and still eats, his mouth is a little mucusy inside but he's not blowing bubbles any more. He's going again to the vet next week but I'm worried about this abnormal head thing? Anyone know anything about the head swelling thing? Would be a real shame if he dies.

That doesn't sound good...I've not heard of using fortum for RI, I've always used Baytril with great success. You didn't say what sort of snake it is or how big it is.

If possible put it in a plastic tub and crank the temp up to 32 to 35C.

He's a Darwin about 18 to 20 months old I think. He sits at around the 32c range but sometimes cools for a short time. Fortum was used once on my 7ft diamond and it fixed her up a treat.
