Some Help Please

Hey All,
I'm just a little bit worried about my diamond. He ate an adult rat (a fair bit bigger than his usual feeds) on 31/1 he did his white poo a couple of days later. Then i noticed that his skin was really dry looking and flabby so i'm assuming that he is gonna shed. His eyes went blue about 3 days ago and have cleared up now. My main concern is that he hasn't pooed yet and it has been 15 days. I know it is probably cos he is gonna shed but can him holding on be harmful?

Someitmes I've found my spotted (I dunno how relevant this will be) doesn't poo until after his next feed.

I've heard on these forums that this is because snakes hold on to any food they may hve inside for as long as possible, because they do not know when their next feed will be...

Someone else will probably know more.

One of my diamonds generally defecates in the shed if she hasn't done so previously. Not a pleasant job, but it's all part of it I suppose. I wouldn't worry to much, it will happen.

i had a theory that they hold their poo to stretch their skin a bit more before shedding,.... Loki often holds his fro a month before shedding,...dont know if theres any truth in that,..but thats my thoughts,..

Thanks everyone. I Have a feeling that he will either poo in his shed or just after it. I wasn't sure about how long is too long to hold on but yous have put my mind a rest.

Just out of curiousity how long does it take your snakes to shed from when you notice that they are going to shed?
Normally i only just notice that Jake looks a bit dry and flabby and his eyes go blue right away then clear up the next day then he sheds that night. So it normally takes him 4 days from when i notice the signs that he is gonna shed. This time it has taken him over 2 weeks.

My childrens will sometimes do a poo a week after he has eaten but quite regularly now he will do a small one then after two feeds he will do a huge one!! after a few days. But when he gets ready to shed will hold it in sometimes for a week or two, and i always worry, but then soon as the shed is finished, wait ten minutes and BAMMO- there is poo, and alot of it!!! usually more than he would normally do.

Don't stress, sometimes they can take up to 3 weeks to shed, they also hold onto thier poo as long as the can to get all the nutrional value out of it. He will more than likely poo in his shed. I have had many Diamonds and this seems to be a trait they have, if it's not in the shed he will probably drop it the next day or so. He may even wait untill his next feed as they do this in the wild. All will be good.

Don't stress it's okay!!
Like has been said he should defecate when he sheds.
I suppose every snake is different but most of our diamonds shed a week to 10 days after their eyes go cloudy.
If you are to worried you can put him in a luke warm bath and massage him.Usually just the swimming motion can get them going again.JMO
Oh, you could always change his paper/substrate that is when ours usually go !!

Congrats he is a beautiful Diamond, well done. Nothing to worry about with him passing food, if they are inactive for awhile which is because he was coming up to a shed that is often the reason that he did not pass it b4, once active they normally do poo if they are due.
