Something wrong or paranoid?

Hoping a few people can offer some advice here. I fed my 6mth old male diamond 2 pinkie rats (1 lg, 1 sm) 2 days ago and just pulled him out and noticed his vents are sorta open. Idn it just doesn't look normal. He had something that was maybe dead skin stuck under one vent or a scale near the vent. It kinda looks as though the vents are lifted up a little (like when a scale gets slightly pulled after being caught on your jumper or something).

I've never seen this before and am hoping that he's not prolapsing or something. I'm considering calling the vet tomorrow, but really can't afford to go in unnecessarily. I can just imagine the vet saying, no he's fine ...$60 thanks.

Is there something wrong possibly, or am I being paranoid?

Have you tried soaking him in some luke warm water just in case there is a bit of loose substrate or something caught. He may even be clogged up in which case the luke warm water bath will help massage and relax the muscles.

I've seen vents get like that when a snake is stressed.

Don't know why your guy would be stressed, but its a thought. Other than that- I'm no help...sorry....

How long since he shed? There might be a bit of left over skin still attached. When I get stressed my vents get like that too. Terrible affliction.

LOL Shamous! I'd see a vet if I were you...a sore cloaca can be nasty!!

Snakegal- Shamous might be onto something with the skin thing...Personally, I would keep an eye on him, and just check it every half hour or so to see if it gets any worse (or better-whatever the case may be). Then if there's no change, or it gets worse- contact a herper who might help you (preferably someone with a lot of experience), or hit up a reptile vet.

Vents? You mean cloacca right?
If it's a prolapse, you'll see the guts hanging out (sorry for crudeness, it's just the easiest way to say it).
If it fed just a day or two ago, it may be trying to smear you with fecal matter as it is stressed by being handled.

Thanks for all your feedback ppl!

The last shed was around 5wks ago (exact date not with me right now).

I don't know what the things are called I'm looking at. There are 2 - one on each side at the start of the tail. Like the opening to the hemipenes?

I may call the vet-thanks for your advice. Koubee, it's cool I'll google the vet now -I'm sure it'll come up.

Yeah I don't think he'd be stressed cos I handle him heaps and he seemed really relaxed-more relaxed than normal.

Cheers I'll let you know the outcome.

The things on each side of the Cloacl vent) are spurs. They are the remnants of legs. Normally larger in Males.

The hemipenes evert through the cloaca.
I'd suggest shamous might be right and you are looking at the spurs.
Snakes only have one opening down that end, that is what cloacca means.
