When monitors are getting ready to shed do they go of there food.My little spencer will not eat at all and will not come out of his hide, his body colour has become darker.
Snakes are so much easier to keep. |

I think monitors are easier to keep, you can feed them anything and I have never come across a monitor that’s a fussy eater. My lacey’s still eat while they shed but that’s in the warmer months, maybe it’s a bit to cold for him to be interested in food.
And its not a stupid question, your just concerned and its alright to ask!! |

| 60°C in the basking spot? No wonder he's darker - he's getting a tan!

If little monitors are kept hot they will eat non-stop, I would check your basking site temp again?
Post up a pick of your whole enclosure? |

| | | | could it just be his annual cycle?
I find that with some herps that even if you keep the temps up durin the cooler months some still do go into brumation, because they still know that they should be hiding at this time of the year because of the photoperiod that you giv them and instinct |

I have never had a hatchie of any species of monitor not feed throughout the first year.
Small monitors have an extremely strong food instict and are very oppurtunistic predators. |

I have moved him into the snake room(on wednesday night) so he has lots of peace and quiet.
Would it be worth handling him a little bit each day? then he may work out i am the meal ticket not the bad guy.
His temps are good, lot's of hiding places, sand substrate, small water bowl, darkness at night time.
I can't realy think of anything else i can do for him?except for leave him and wait.

A good food for little fellas is Kangaroo mince (petfood section of coles) mixed with raw egg and vitamin/calcium powder.
It is very strong smelling/tasting and wont be refused.... |

My spencer eats like a demon, with a preference to mice.
