Question Taming an adult beardie...

To all you beardie owners, does anyone have advice on taming an adult beardie?

We've just got an 18 month old male beardie, Diego. I don't think he was handled much by his previous owner as he is not really used to being out of his enclosure with people. I'm looking for advice and tips on ways to get him used to being handled.

He has a room to himself at the moment as our old spare bedroom has become our newly converted herp room. It's nice and quiet and tucked away so he doesn't have people walking past his enclosure all the time. We've given him a week to settle in and he seems to be handling the move ok. He's eating well and happily takes handfed crickets, mealworms (freshly shed) and yesterday we even got him eating bok choy by hand! He refused to eat greens for the first week we had him, little bugger

He doesn't mind being petted in his tank, and has never bitten. When I pick him up and take him out he often squirms like crazy and (very occasionally) hisses, though he never shows signs of any real aggression. Sometimes he shows me his big, mean black beard I always make sure to support all 4 legs when I'm holding him so he feels secure. Often he'll settle down after a few moments and will tolerate sitting on my knee, with the occasional squirm in protest. I've tried the t-shirt trick over the weekend - putting him between my t-shirt and an old jumper to create a warm little burrow, and he just sits on my chest for 20-30 minutes while I watch tv quietly. He seems pretty chilled and drifts in and out of sleep, although once or twice he did try to climb out.

Anyone else got any further bonding tips? He's a sweet little guy and I'd love to have him out and about, but I don't want to cause him any unneccessary stress.

sounds like ur doing a great job with him already,...!!

just keep putting him on ur chest when ur watching telly, mine love a rub behind the ears and a gentle back massage,....if you have long hair leave it down and he should snuggle in,...

try putting a heat baggy (microwaved bag of rice wrapped in a towel) on a windowsill fro him to sit on and watch the world go by, my girls love that,..

It will settle down with time. I have had a few beardies and they''ve all been very placid.

it also depends on the animals, i only handle my beardies every few feeks and they are fine with me picking them up.
