I'm just wondering what the perfect temp a basking spot should be for a beardie??
Cheers Sam!

IMO 40C or more at the hotest bit. They have a prefered body temp of around 37C so it is ideal for the basking site to be above that. A rock, road or branch in direct sun will easily get well over 50C and in the wild they will bask in such locations. The only thing you need to be careful of is in summer when it is already very hot, then you need to make sure they can cool down if required.

Just make sure you use a thermometer to regularly check the temps of the cool end too - depending on the strength of the bulb and the size of the tank, you could make the whole tank too hot. They should be able to get to a cooler spot closer to 28-30 (IMO) in the cool end - easy in my 4ft fish tank, a little harder in a smaller tank, especially if well insulated without good ventilation. Keep an eye on it - they can overheat. A shallow water dish in the cooler end is good insurance that they can dunk and get cool if they need to.

cool, i upgraded to a 4 foot fishtank and its 28 in cool end and 37 in the basking spot with hides in each end, a water dish with rocks in it and newspaper substrate. I'll post pics soon, i just got it temporarily set up so i can get the temps right and its got a big timber lid so i want to cut out the top and replace with screen.
