I don't use them, but hot end would make sense to me.

I live in a tropical climate so i don't use any heating at all. I let the enclosures get a couple of hours of sunlight a day at one end and that's all they really need up here.

for a coastal carpet, if its in the middle what would the temp be to create a temp gradient? and how would i put the wire in the enclosure, without it being able to hurt the snake? coz random wire sounds a bit ouchie if you know what i mean. unless its harmless?

All they are is a sensor, no possibility of hurting the snake i would have thought.

hmm i guess that makes sence, but i always thought random sharp things would hurt. (like the end of a bit of wire) but if its soft enough i guess it wont do damage thanks all
regards

What kind of Stat will you be using? I haven't seen any that are a bare sharp wire before, some have like a metal probe but isn't sharp, and all the others i have seen are covered in rubber.
