Blair,

I have a couple that are similar. They are really easy to wire up but you might be best to get an electrician to wire them for you. For those type you would be best to attach it on the back wall about half way in the enclosure.

The sparky should know how to set it up. They don't take long at all. Basically all they are is a switch that turns the power off to the heat source when the set temp. is reached. The live/active wire goes into the thermostat, then back out to the heat source. Just make sure he positions it in the middle of the enclosure.

The position of the thermostat depends on the size and heating arrangement of your enclosure.

Generally you are trying to achieve a thermal gradient.

Eg) a 6by2by2 ft enclosure using lights at one end the thermostats are placed as shown in the pic. about 1ft away from the basking spot in the middle of the back wall. If they are placed in the middle of the enclosure it is hard to achieve a significant gradient. I can achieve 10-15 deg using this arrangement.

Cheers

PM if you want more info on positioning.

I'm not sure I understand your logic.
The temp gradient will depend on whatever temp is set on the thermostat. Surely you can achieve the same temp gradient with the thermostat in the middle by adjusting the desired temp?

LOL when I first got my thermostat it tock three sparkies to wire it up two blow the fuses and buggered the thermostats and the last guy did it in two mins. I have seen them being installed that many times now I can do it with my eyes closed.

Blair please don't attempt to do this yourself. Get an electrician to do it.
