i got a microclimate b1, apparantly microclimate are the best. b1 are diming so instead of just switching it on and off it reduces it power making it more consistant

Hey,
Your best bet is going with microclimate and either getting a B1 or B2... though you should also decide if you are going to be using ceramic heat emitters or bulbs.
In a nut shell:
Bulbs (B1 Thermostat)- Cheap, but they don't always last for very long and they put out visible light which could be annoying depending on where your Viv is.
Heat emitters(B2 thermostat) - Little more expensive but have a considerably longer lifespan and have no visible light output.
You can use a B1 thermostat with a ceramic heat emitter but you cant really use a B2 with a globe as it will kill your globes really quick. Hope this helps.

Why use a thermostat at all???? if you set up your cage accordingly there is no need to use a thermostat.. if you were to use one though microclimate make a good one.. and HERPSHOP now have in a new brand which my friend tried out and they are awesome as well.. check out there site as i cant think of name off top of my head..think they are habistat..or habitat or something like that.. good quality and well priced.. but personally i dont see a NEED to use a thermostat.. and no i am not in the tropics or somewhere hot...

thermostats = ease, which is why i imagine people use them, also if your using a heat mat or cord how else can u control them?

There are some heat mats that will only get to 32-34 degrees and will stay there on their own.. and with heat cord the wattage has a role to play in the heat emmitted.. people assume they need to heat the whole cage so i had better buy a 100w globe and a 60w mat.. not the case.. mt jungle lives in her 1m by 500mm by 500mm enclosure with a 15w heat cord.. and it is all perfect..

Wouldn't the ambient temp rise and couldn't that, combined with the extra heating in the enclosure make the temps too hot for the snakes?

dead right JESSB on a hot day [no good] without a thermostat l personally reccomend a habistat dimming thermostat from the herp shop [just as good] but a bit cheaper and which ever one you go for [dimming thermostats] are heaps easier on globes on / off thermostats are good at blowing globes...cheers solar 17

B1 is the way to go. A lot of people use them for their incubators too so u know they are acurate. I just bought one from reptilesinc. for $130. B1's are dimming thermostats and are good for globes and emitters and mats and chords and they don't need to be wired by a electrition. Dimming thermostats will be able to keep a constant temperature.

microclimate b1's are great and theherpshop, www.herpshop.com.au has the habistat range which are equally as good, and a little cheaper. either way i would be looking for a dimming thermostat, save you replacing bulbs and far easier to keep a constant temperature.
