Thought my spotted was dead

I just now checked on my 16 month old spotted as he is due to shed soon. The light to his tank is off but I turned the light to the room on so could see him but not disturb him and he was behind his hide belly up! All I saw was his white belly. I started freaking out. I turned his light on and quickly checked his heat was on, it was. The position he was in was head and first few inches of his body were up the right way but from say halfway along to the tip of his tail he was belly up, not stretched out, just coiled up normally, but belly up. He moved back into position when I disturbed him and seemed ok, I'm just wondering if this is normal behaviour? He is all cloudy because of due to shed. I got him out and checked him all over and he seemed ok. Should I be concerned? Or was he just really really relaxed?

From what i can tell, yeah seems gravid. Coming up to a pre lay shed by the sounds of it. But at 16months? And obviously it would be a she not a he in that case.

No way, can't be. I've had him since he was 10 months old and he hasn't been with any other snakes AND I had him probed a couple of weeks ago.
Any other thoughts?
Could have a gender identity issue and it's a phantom pregnancy!
BTW I didn't know thats what the females did when gravid, very interesting.

Hi Dino. I have observed some of my carpets coming up to shed laying in similar positions. More commonly for me, rather than belly up, they kind of lay on their side and coil awkwardly. When you look at them you think they are sick. Once they shed they go right back to normal. Anybody else observed this kind of behaviour?

Thanks Ewan thats a bit more reassuring. I've only had him for 6 months so obviously not fully familiar with his shedding behaviour yet. I checked him this morning and he seems fine, just layin' there normal.

Yeah, I would have thought this was part of the shedding process.

I've had my spotted for a couple of years and it was only once this year that I've seen this kind of behaviour. I thought she was sick, but she didn't do it again, and acted normally after, so I didn't worry.

shed

Funny you are all talking bout that, half an hour ago i was showing someone my stimmy. i lifted up her hide and she too was on her side.. not her body but her head and neck was on its side on the ground? it looked really strange coz ive never seen any of my other snakes do it, although this stimy does have alot of personality, shes a bit random but thats what i love bout her
