Question Turtle breeding questions

I am making a divider in my tank and have it all planned out, but i would like to ask what substrate should i use for were the turtles actually lay the eggs ?

I think i heard mixture of sand and soil, is that just normal sand and soil from the backyard or what?

Please advice me ASAP, any advise is appreciated

Myles

A mixture of sand and soil so that it won't fall in on itself if a hole is dug in it is what they recommend, however it may be hard to get them to breed in an indoor tank situation. This is because they need natural seasonal triggers like the lengthening of the days, sun, air temps etc.

ive done it

i used course river sand with some nice soil, hope they like it

What do you suggest i do about the actual egg laying as they arent outside ?
Maybe give them sunlight which makes them feel more natural ?

Anyway thanks everyone

ive bred turtles inside
and i can personally tell you it was bloody hard work
i used a mix of river sand and soil, but i can tell you it is heaps easier breedign them out doors
alan is corect the turtles bred according to the tempreture and light. i attempt to breed my turtles inside every year and only get about a one in two or three year sucess rate, where is i breed them sucessfully outdorors yearly and i live in melbourne where it is freezing

the water is brown from them getting the soil into thw water, i can hardly see them.

i will probably just put wood or something on top until its the time of year the lay the eggs
