Hi. Just wondered how often everyone changes the water (and what percentage) in their turtle tanks ? We've had ours nearly 2 mths I guess and not changed the water yet, just topped up as needed & ensured correct PH levels. Noticed the other day some 'fruit flies' (possibly called something else) hovering and keep going back there, buzzing around the wall on the outside, seem to have reduced that prob but now there is a small green tinge to the 'dry dock' ledge inside just where it hits the water - concerned as to what to clean that with ?? Appreciate any help.

weekly water changes are a must 30% to 50% not all or you will kill all the bacteria in the water, you can change the water easily by using a tool called a gravel vac, you can check them out at almost any pet shop with fish. topping up water does absolutely nothing because you're not actually removing any of the waste, your amonia, nitirite and nitrate levels are probably pretty high from all the waste so i would take a water sample with you and get a full test done, pH is only of of 7 chemicals that should be monitered

You can find a pH kit at a pet shop.

I change about one quarter to a half every week with the gravel vac and they are excellent as sucking up crap from the bottom. Get a canister filter as it makes keeping the tanks cleaner easier. I empty the whole tank out once a year also and give it a good clean.
