I would feed him once a week and it is better to feed him something of bigger size than to feed him a few of the one item if you think of the fur and whatever that just goes right through him he cant get any goodness out of that....

The fur or feathers are important for healthy digestion in most reptiles - they don't absorb it but it assists in proper stool formation. That's why I use mice until the snake needs to go onto something bigger - even hatchie carpets usually prefer to eat a fuzzy mouse as their first feed in preference to pinkies, which are a bit small for a carpet in my opinion. You'll be surprized at how easily a hatchie can eat something which seems like a big meal to us.
